Meet The Team
Founder & Coach
Russ Penn
I am the current Halesowen Town first team Manager, and following my retirement from my playing career I sought a new challenge as a manager and a coach. As a current UEFA A License holder I embarked on a career in management. My most recent previous employment was with Kidderminster Harriers as first team manager, where we achieved a National League promotion and FA Cup 4th Round run, which saw us face West Ham United at Aggborough Stadium in 2022. I am an Ex-Professional footballer, with a current career span of 22 years and have made over 300 football league games, at clubs such as, Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion, Carlise Utd and York City and made a further 300 appearances in non-league with Kidderminster Harriers, Gateshead and Wrexham. I have coached and managed over 200 games as a First team manager within the non-league. This is my Passion, it’s in my DNA. I have had many highs in my career, with two Wembley appearances and even representing my country at England C level travelling the world. Along with the highs, I have battled through the lows and faced relegations and play off disappointment and this has embedded sheer determination and resilience. I have been fortunate enough to have played and continue to work professionally within Football and feel that now is the time to share my knowledge and skills with the next generation of talent. I have high expectations and promote professionalism, and respect, and these are the core values of TFA.

Jimmy O'Connor
I am an ex-professional Footballer who enjoyed spells with the likes of Walsall, Doncaster Rovers and Derby County. An FA Youth Cup Winner with Aston Villa in 2002, I went on to make over 400 appearances at Championship and League One level in a career spanning nearly 15 years. Following my retirement from playing in 2019, I made the transition into coaching at Kidderminster Harriers where I took up the Academy Managers role before teaming up with Russ Penn as Assistant Manager to oversee the Club embark upon a successful FA Cup run to the 4th Round before achieving promotion to the National League the following season. Now a fully qualified UEFA A Licensed coach, I combine my extensive playing and coaching knowledge to help create an environment where the player can improve, learn and most of all enjoy their football. As a local lad who was fortunate enough to have lived his dream as a footballer at a good level, I have a passion to make sure that the next generation of football lovers have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful game by offering them the attention, enthusiasm and professionalism that we value at TFA.
Goalkeeper Coach
Lewis Solly
I am the current first-team Goalkeeper Coach at Halesowen Town. My playing career began with professional clubs, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bury FC. I then embarked on a non-league career, playing over 500 games for clubs including Welshpool, Aberystwyth, Telford, Redditch, Rushall, Stourport, and Stourbridge. After several knee surgeries, I decided to finish my playing career early and discovered a new passion for coaching within grassroots football. I coached the junior goalkeepers at Stourbridge FC, working with players from U7 to U16, while also managing a grassroots team from U8 to U16. I was then offered the opportunity to become the first-team Goalkeeper Coach at Stourbridge FC, and during my time there, I was appointed as the interim Manager. Highlights of my career include reaching the first and second rounds of the FA Cup with Stourbridge FC, being appointed as interim manager, and coaching my grassroots team to victory in the JPL National Championships at U15. Having worked with some brilliant managers and coaches over the years, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my coaching, helping players to reach their full potential.
